Arnold

The Arnold family link to the Paxton’s began first with Annie Arnold who married Leonard Meek.  Leonard Meek was the son of Charles Meek and Elizabeth Paxton. Elizabeth Paxton, was the daughter of Joseph Paxton and Lavica Bowers? Then Annie’s sister Eleanora Arnold married John Nave Paxton Elizabeth ‘s younger brother.  Then enters the Rippy family.  Annie and Eleanor had a half sister Alice VanHoutan.  Alice was the daughter of Annie and Eleanor’s mother Rebecca’s second husband William VanHoutan. Alice married Benjamin Jacob Rippy who was the son of Jeremiah Gant Rippy and Mary Dale. Now Jeremiah and Mary had another son John Jesse Rippy who married Carrie Paxton, daughter of John Nave Paxton and Eleanor Arnold.  Jeremiah also had another wife (his third) Melissa Jane Wiatt.  With Melissa he had a daughter Martha Charlotte. This daughter Martha married Henry Lee Meek son of Leonard Meek and Annie Arnold. Sounds pretty confusing, Huh?  Thank Goodness for the Family Tree Maker program that helped me keep track of the names. And, for Norma Vanhoutan, Pam (Meek) Villanueva and Tara (Rippy) Bohannon who helped me get it straight with who belonged to who..

Obituary for Rebecca McGrew

Taken from the Worth County, Missouri Death Notices 1907-1910 Page 56 Van Houtan, Mrs. Rebecca Permain (Nee McGrew) –died 4 march 1909 at the home of her daughter Mrs. C. Bellis, aged 75. She was born in Oh., 15 September 1833. She married Thomas Arnold in 1850. Five children were born & four survive & Thomas died in 1860. Then she married William Van Houtan in 1861. Five more children were born & four survive with her husband. Those attending the funeral were—Charles Van Houtan, Mrs. Alice Rippy; L.U.R. Arnold: Mrs. Ella Paxton, Mrs. C. Bellis, Children not present were---Thomas Arnold, of Huntley, Mont.: George Van Houtan, of Guthrie, Okla.: Mrs. Anna Meek, of Melburne, Missouri.. Services at the Christian Church at Oxford, Mo.
