RULES FOR 2009 RACING SEASON 1. It is the responsibility of all drivers, crewmembers, owners and all associated personel to be familiar with the rules. It is also the responsibility of the driver to assure that everyone abides by the rules. 2. Race Day Schedule * Registration 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Hot Laps 7:00 p.m. Racing about 7:30 p.m. * Drivers registering late will start in the rear of the heats. 3. Drivers must register and their kart must pass pre-race technical inspection before they will be allowed on the track. Only individuals with a driver's pit pass are allowed to drive karts on the track. All drivers under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian and such signature(s) must be notarized if not signed at registration. Everyone in the pit area must sign the waiver. 4. Race Fees (non-refundable) LMS Entry (includes driver) $10.00 plus $5 for gate entry. (Total for 1 kart and driver= $15.00) PIT pass $10 per crew member (under 5 yrs old free) 5. Race Format: Drivers draw numbers for starting positions at the time of sign up. Lowest number th start on the pole for the first heat. If there is to be more than one heat in the first set of heats in a class, lowest number starts on the pole in the first heat, second lowest number starts on the pole for the second heat, third lowest number is outside pole for the first heat, fourth lowest number is outside pole for the second heat, etc. For the second set of heats, the starting lineup will be inverse of the starting lineup of the first set of heats. Points will be awarded by the finish of the heats--first gets 1 point, second gets 2 points, etc. Main events are lined up by the total points accumulated by heat race finishes. Lowest point total starts on the pole, second lowest starts outside pole, etc. Ties in points will be settled by the number drawn at sign up, lowest number having preference. The first 6 karts with the lowest point total go the the "A" Main, the next 6 karts to the "B" Main, the next 6 karts in the "C" Main, etc. The winners of the "C" or "D" mains may move up the the next race. The top 2 karts in the "B" Main may transfet to the "A" Main. If a kart eligible to transfer elects not to transfer or is unable to race, the next highest kart may move up. No more tha 8 karts will be allowed to start any race. 6. Heat races will be 10 laps, mains will be 15 laps. (Exceptions may be the special races of the year.) 7. Classes: A minimum of 4 karts are required to make a class. Classes may be added as long as the minimum number of karts is met. Requirements can be found at Kart Classes 8. If a kart fails to make the starting grid, the karts behind will move up by the inside karts moving to the outside of the next row and outside karts moving to the inside of the same row. Once the karts have left the starting grid and entered the track should a kart drop out, the karts directly behind shall move forward to fill the vacant positions. If a kart is not on the starting grid when the karts enter the track, it will not be allowed to start the race. 9. A kart on the starting grid will have 90 seconds to join the pack once the karts have left the starting grid. Karts that cannot start within that time will not be allowed to leave the starting grid. No one will be allowed to enter the track once the signal for one lap to green has been displayed. In the event the green flag has been displayed to start a race and a yellow or red flag has been displayed before one lap has been completed by all the karts, a competitor stalled on the starting grid may enter the track and join the pack starting from the rear. Once the lap has been completed under green, no one may enter the track from the starting grid. 10. A kart that drops out of a race must pull off of the racing surface and cannot be restarted. 11. If there is a restart following a red flag, any kart running prior to the incident shall be allowed to restart provied they are mechanically safe. Staff personnel will give the okay for restarting the karts. 12. The kart, or karts, necessitating a red or yellow flag will start at the rear of the pack on the restart. Stalled karts under yellow shall retire from the racing surface. 13. All first time drivers must start at the back of the pack on that day of racing and should be markedwith a black "X" on the helmet. 14. Numbers shall be black on white panels with a minimum height of 6 inches. Numbers shall be displayed on the front, rear, and both sides of the kart and shall be legible at the start of each race. Karts with numbers illegible to the lap checkers will not be scored. 15. Numbers are allotted for a stated class when registering on a first come first served basis. Assigned numbers in stated class shall have preference for that number. Racers without assigned numbers in a class will have preference for a unassigned number on a first come first served basis at the time of event sign in. Duplicate numbers will not be allowed in any class. 16. All Protest must be made to the Race Director in writing within 15 minutes of the end of the race by the driver. Judgement calls are not protestable. Race day decisions are final. 17. Pre-race tech inspection shall be per IKF Safety Rules. Front bumpers must be a minimum of 7 3/4 inches high and the lowest rear bumper cross member may be no higher than 7 1/2 inches. Rear bumpers are recommended to cover 80% of the rear tire but may not extend beyond the rear tires. Nerf bars are recommeneded and should be a least 24 inches long. Nose piece or front body STRONGLY Recommended. 18. Drivers safety rules are as follows: BASIC SAFETY RULES Good helmet (prefer full face) face shield or goggles neck brace long sleeved top long pants (no shorts) gloves chain guard front and rear bumpers on all karts Drivers not complying with this section of the rules will not be allowed on the track at any time. A yellow flag will be displayed for a driver that has lost any portion of the required safety equipment after the start of the race. A driver without proper safety equipment under yellow will be black flagged to replace the disloged safety equipment. A driver may re-enter the field after replacing the disloged safety equipment under yellow, provided the kart has not stalled. 19. Any driver that spins twice in the same race (unassisted)may be black flagged. 20. NO ONE may cross the track after the karts have entered the track from the starting grid. NO ONE other than the corner workers or race officials shall be allowed on the infield during a race (unless special permission has been cleared with track officials). 21. Only race officials are allowed in the scoring area. A violation of this rule will result in disqualification from the event. 22. Flags: GREEN: Start the race. RED: Stop with caution on the race track. If possible, stop before passing the scene of the accident. Working on karts prohibited. YELLOW: Caution, reduce speed immediately and circle the track in single file. Race to the finish line prohibited. The restart will be lined up according to the position at the last completed lap. WHITE: One lap to go in the race. BLACK: Go to the pits for disqualification or mechanical problem. Failure to observe a black flag will be cause for disqualification for the remainder of the event. BLUE w/YELLOW STRIPE: Move over flag. Leaders are behind you, make room for them to pass. CHECKERED: End of race. Slow down and proceed to the pit area. 23. Point will be awared for a season champoinship at each event for each class by the following schedule: Drivers eligible for transfer to the next highest main who elect not to transfer or who cannot compete will receive the points of the kart that moves up to take their place. A driver that takes any green flag during an event will earn no fewer points than if they had been the last kart in the lowest main raced that day. Drivers receiving a black flag for disqualification during a main will be scored last and will receive last place points. POINTS ARE EARNED BY THE DRIVER. The lowest points race will be dropped for Points Championship. 24. ADULT IKF STOCK CLASS TECH At the end of the "A" Main the winner will pick a number from 1 to 4, this draw will decide which finishing positions will be the subject to post-race tech. The winner will also draw a second card that will determine which item will e subjected to technical inspection. A kart deemed to be illegal via technical inspection will be disqualified and given no points for that day. 25. Any driver in a race may protest an engine of another competitor in teh same race in writing no later than 15 minutes after the checkered flag. Such a protest shall state the extent of the tear down to be accomplished by a $30 fee for a technical inspection of the top end of the engine (head and cylinder to be removed only) and a $50 fee for a complete tear down and inspection. If the protest is upheld, the fee shall be returned, and the protested kart will be disqualified. If the protest is not upheld, the fee shall be given to the protested driver to allay the costs of reassembling the engine. TECH ITEMS FOR JR1 & JR11 Restrictor plates, valve lift Weights to be bolted down....NOT wire-tied or taped on 27. Any person exhibiting poor sportsmanship, engaging in behavior detrimental to the conduct of the event or interfering in the duties of a race official will be required to leave the event property. If that person is the sole guardian of a junior driver competing in the event, the junior driver shall not be allowed further competition. The decison as to what type of behavior will constitute poor sportsmanship, detrimental behavior or interference will lie with the Race Director and /or the Pit Boss whose decision shall be final and not subject to appeal. |
