Coats of Arms for Goulet

From Armorial
Général des Hozier
From Armorial
de la Sarthe
From Illustrations to
the Armorial Generale

The first coat of arms comes from Armorial Général des Hozier and from one of those mail order family history places. It was conferred upon Jean-Melchoir Goullet de Rugy in 1785 by King Louis the 16th. Jean-Melchoir was descended from David Goullet born in 1627. Since most of the Goulets in North America are descended from Jacques Goulet, who came to Canada in 1646, they probably have no rights to bear these arms. Also this entire line of Goulets were protestants.

Blazon for these arms is: Azure a lion rampant or against a fountain argent.

The crest is described as: The lion of the arms.

The second coat of arms comes from the Armorial de la Sarthe and a picture of them can be found in Illustrations to the Armorial Generale. They belong to Rene du Goullet. It is believed that these were conferred in 1667. This line of Goulets earned the title of nobility since 1487. Since Jacques Goulet came to Canada in 1646, it is doubtful that his descendants have the right to bear these arms.

Blazon for these arms is: D'argent a trois fasces d'azur
This means: Silver with three bars of blue.

The third coat of arms comes from a drawing in Illustrations to the Armorial Generale. The only information that I have for these arms is that the family is from Brittany.

I do not have an official blazon for these arms.
Based on the drawing I came up with the blazon: Or in bend four torteaus between two rustres azure.

I am displaying these arms because, of the three, these have the best chance of being the correct ones for the descendants of Jacques Goulet, if any arms exist.

Thanks to Alan Goulet for giving me the information on the coats of arms.

If you have any inforamation on any of these three coats, please contact me.
