ACACIA GUM Acacia
vera |
Also
known as: Arabic gum, Gum Arabic tree, Egyptian
thorn, Indian gum tree.
Acacia Gum was
historically used by Middle Eastern tribes for food and
medicinally to soothe irritated areas of the digestive
tract. Today, it is used as a main ingredient in many
products for the same purpose- to soothe irritated mucous
membranes.
|
Common
use: Demulcent; soothe irritated
mucous membranes; inflammation; sore throat, coughs,
diarrhea; externally as a soothing salve or poultice
for burns, sore nipples. |
|
|
|
Dissolved in water, Acacia Gum
acts to soothe irritated mucous membranes and forms a protective
coating on the respiratory, gastrointestinal and urinary
linings. As a salve or poultice it can be beneficial for women
who are suffering from over-nursing and are experiencing painful
nipples. For non-medicinal purposes, Acacia Gum is one of the
most commonly used non-fragrant binders for making solid, molded
incense.
Acacia Tea: Pour one cup of boiling water over 1/2 to 1
teaspoonful of herbs and allow to steep 4 to 7 minutes; strain.
Adults only, drink 1 to 2 cups daily; one before breakfast
and/or one at bedtime. If desired, add honey and/or lemon to
suit taste.
Capsules: Take as an
addition to the daily diet. Take 1 or 2 capsules three times
daily with water at mealtimes.
