ALUM ROOT |
Also

Spotted Cranesbill |
Alum
is a strong, non-irritating, astringent herb
effectively used for external and internal bleeding,
diarrhea and hemorrhoids. |
|
Common
use: Internal & external bleeding;
hemorrhages; bleeding wounds (powder or wet
compress); gargle and/or mouthwash for mouth &
throat sores, bleeding gums, bleeding from extracted
teeth; stops diarrhea & dysentery; vaginal
douche (leucorrhoea, flaccid tissue). |
|
|
|
Alum root is recognized in
traditional herbal therapy as an astringent, a substance that
tightens tissues and reduces fluid secretions and as a styptic,
a substance that stops hemorrhaging and bleeding. Because of
these properties, Alum is often recommended as part of a formula
to control excessive menstrual flow, for bleeding hemorrhoids
and anus swelling (a decoction as a retention enema); as a
mouthwash or gargle for throat and mouth sores, as well as
bleeding gums.
