CELERY |
|
|
While
Celery is often just thought of as an appetizing
salad ingredient, in traditional herbal medicine,
Celery seed is an excellent diuretic to relieve
water retention and is used mainly in the treatment
of rheumatism, arthritis and gout. |
|
Common
use: Arthritis, rheumatism, gout,
hyperacidity, hypertension, insomnia, kidney stones,
neuralgia, obesity (when water retention is a
problem), pulmonary edema (collection of fluid in
the heart), toxemia, helps eliminate uric acid,
urinary antiseptic. |
|
|
Not only does Celery seed have
a stimulating effect on the kidneys to promote the flow of
urine, but historically it has been used to improve digestion,
(Celery is a natural source of organic sodium which can help the
stomach lining and the joints, in fact consuming celery seed in
food aids the digestion of protein), and is often recommended by
herbalists because of its calming effect on the nervous system,
as it works to soothe the nerves and relieve pain.
|
|
Place 1 teaspoon of celery seeds in a cup. Fill the cup
with boiling water. Cover and let stand for fifteen
minutes. Strain and drink. Drink 3 cups a day.
|
|
As
an addition to the diet, take 1 or 2 capsules three times daily
with water at mealtime.
|
|
Large
amounts of celery seed may increase photosensitivity. Use
in moderation during pregnancy.
