Incense is a wonderful thing. It can lift your spirit, aid in Meditation and Astral Travel as well as help in Spellworkings. There are four main types of Incense; 1) The Loose type (usually purchased in jars) or if you are a bit of a kitchen witch and a dab hand with the pestle and mortor make your own from your own dried herbs. This would also require a charcoal burner and charcoal. 2) The Stick, or perhaps some of you may call them joss sticks, excellant and easy to use for smudging as you can just wave the stick around and over without fear of loosing any as you might with the loose variety and charcoal burner. This is the preferred method in use at my home on a daily basis. 3) The Cone, this comes in different sizes and just reqpuires a surface to burn on, something like a small saucer, or perhaps an ashtray would be ideal. 4) Resin, which can come in a block or ready crumbled. For this you would light your charcoal burner and place a piece of the resin on it. Before I go on to the list of Incense just a word about charcoal burning. If you have not tried this before, a word or warning. This should be done in a well ventilated room or even better outside as charcoal can smoke profusly depending on what you are burning. You should light the charcoal and stand back and wait for the tablet to go grey before adding your loose incense. If you bear this in mind using loose incense will be a pleasurable experience.
