I began a journey
And I saw a man
A poor man
He asked of me but crumbs
I threw them to the wind
He asked of me but water
I spit upon him
He asked of me shelter
I told him to seek the trees
He asked of me compassion
I laughed at his pleas
He turned to me for truth
I lied
He begged me for warmth
I turned away
Finally he screamed at me for peace
So for peace of mind I killed him
I continued on my journey
I saw the riches of kings
In the houses of gods
And kings with the sorrows of peasants
I crossed many a war of Land or love
And the many casualties they caused
I watched the husbands
Torment as their homes were burned
And their women raped
Because men glory in death
I saw pain of life and
Lives of pain
And slowly my heart
Was filled
With sorrow
With warmth
And with compassion
I began my journey home
I saw an old man
A man I had killed
So many years ago
I asked him for forgiveness
And this he gladly gave
It was all he had to give
