IAI/Elta EL/M 2075 Phalcon / Condor |
The Israel Aerospace Industries EL/M-2075 Phalcon AEW&C System represents a new approach to AEW Radar systems, being based on a fixed Active Electronically Scanned Array rather than the mechanically scanned array or rotodome normally associated with this type of aircraft. The Phalcon is based on a commercial Boeing 767 airframe, with large modifications to house the radar arrays. Following development in Israel, the Phalcon was purchased by Chile as an operational AEW&C capability for its air force, the first of two aircraft being delivered in 1994. IAI have examined a number of other applications for the Phalcon System including using the Boeing 757 or 767 or Airbus A300 series as the platform. A smaller partial system has been reported to have been fitted to South African Air Force Boeing 707 aircraft giving limited AEW&C capability.
