When, after months of speculation and rumour, Steve Strange and Rusty Egan announced to the world that their next venture in clubland would be fronting the re-made, remodelled Music Machine in Camden, there were many who thought that the two had finally bitten off more than the two could chew. Surely it was one thing to fill a small West End club to its limit once a week, like they did with Blitz, Hell and Club For Heroes, but quite another to attempt to fill a 1.000-plus capacity pleasure-dome five nights a week in the Camden sticks. ´ Most clubs,´ says Egan, ´say we´re the front room of the stars. Therefore you should pay a lot of money to come and see us.´ ´ Steve and I have always said ´ you are the stars´ . Accordingly we offer a reasonable entrance fee, good music, a little above pub prices and ... people. That´s the key to the Palace´s succes - the people who turn up. - TIME OUT 31 DECEMBER 1982 - 6 JANUARY 1983 - CAMDEN PALACE MENU |
