Armourer Forster was born on 23 Oct 1825 in Elsdon, Northumberland, England. He is believed to have been one of Joseph Hawdon's helpers when the first cattle drive to Adelaide via the Murray River was undertaken in 1839 (but it seems doubtful that a boy aged 14 would be part of such a venture). He wed 1859 in Balranald, NSW, Australia to Elizabeth Ann Murray 1836 daughter of Kate Haden and Donald Murray who arrived in Australia 1854 from County Cork, Ireland.
Armourer Forster (died 1889) and Joseph Hawdon's nephew John Hawdon (died aged 21 in 1848) were among the first settlers near Mildura, and both are buried in the old Mildura Station Grave site.
