A real story of Jacques Mayol,

was examined by doctors under his years as an active
diver and they found that during his dives
his pulse slowed down from 60 to 25 beats
per minute to reduce the lack of oxygen,
just as dolphins do...
Rosana Arquette
Jacques (Barr) and Enzo (Reno) grew up together
in the Mediterranean, and remain lifelong
friends despite a fierce battle for the top prize
in the world free diving championships, where
divers compete to see who can descend to the
furthest depths of the sea with no equipment
other than their own courage and determination.
Jacques feels an unusual affinity
for the sea and is able to slow his heartrate
during dives and stay underwater for
superhuman durations. He is so at home
in the water that he seems only half-human.
But when the dreamer Jacques falls in love
with the beautiful Johanna (Arquette),
he finds himself torn between the
damsel and the deep blue sea.
Breathtaking underwater photography
and a meditative and deep story
have made this film a cult classic.
