THE REAL BRUCE LEE
- Year: 1977
- Starring: Bruce Lee, Dragon Lee, some Bruce Li
- Directed by: Jim Markovic
- Running time: 100/120 mintues
The most amusing thing I found about this movie are two quotes from the narrator. The first being in reference to the movie itself, "...much time and care had been taken to compile this film in order to secure it's authenticity." Oh yeah right! The first half hour is old footage and the rest looks like it was shot over the weekend. It almost sounds like it's supposed to be serious of something. The other quote is about Dragon Lee, the newest Bruce Lee imitator, "The latest is by far the greatest." Oh my. I think Bruce Li would have something to say about that!
Okay, the film starts off with a retrospective of Bruce Lee's early films such as Kid Cheung, The Bad Boy, Carnival, and Orphan Sam. These clips aren't in color, they aren't even in black and white, it's more brown and white. Next is a Bruce Li highlight reel, which in my opinion runs a bit too long.
Last is a mini movie starring Dragon Lee. I'm not sure what it is called, but it's about the Japanese giving the Chinese a hard time. I relatively short with a running time of roughly 68 minutes. This is a good thing as shortens the time between fights. It enjoyed it and it was pretty fun to watch. Although, at the end Dragon Lee heads to the Japanese headquarters to rescue a girl and after he kills them all that's the end. What happened to the girl? Anyway, here are a few highlights:
- Dragon Lee kicks rocks at a target. The rocks just look funny flying through the air.
- Dragon Lee is ambushed by the Japanese and this guy come out of a tree by using a door. What kind of tree has a door?
- Dragon Lee flies!
- The Japanese boss guy takes off another guy's pants with a sword.
- Cool weapons like steel balls, death frisbees, and Dr. Scholl's Lacerating Insoles.
- In the end battle Dragon Lee takes on two Japanese baddies. They double team him and one guy throws his sword at him and the other guy throws his pair of death frisbees at him. Dragon catches a frisbee in his mouth and the sword in his hand and the other frisbee in the other hand. The guys are stunned.
- Dragon Lee - Worst haircut ever!
- Spinning leaves?!
One scene during the final fight has Dragon Lee jumping up above a baddie to land on his shoulders. It's because as he lands on his shoulders, then jumps into the air again, he's holding his hands up behind his head the whole time. Why? Because he's holding onto the wire! It's so obvious, it's not even funny. There are a few other scenes where the wires stand out. Damn, if they were any good, they wouldn't need the wires.
