Arriving to the grunge scene in 1990 with Nirvana and other grunge bands, Pearl Jam was founded by former Mother Love Bone bandmates Stone Gossard (guitars) and Jeff Ament (bass). Also forming the band were Mike McCready (lead guitar), Dave Krusen (drums), and Eddie Vedder (vocals). They formed the name after Vedder's grandma |
Pearl who was known for her homemade jam. In 1992 they released their debut album Ten which was an excellent album. The main hits "Even Flow," "Alive," "Black," and "Jeremy," (which sparked controversey with its graphic video) helped Ten sell 12 million copies. In October 1993, Vs. was released. "Daughter," "Dissident," and "Go" became the primary songs. Their next album Vitalogy, released in 1994 was a quite strange yet original album. Grungy tunes like "Not for You" & "Corduroy" and the ballads "Better Man" & "Immortality" showed the band's wide range of talent. During their summer 1995 tour, a lawsuit was brought up by Ticketmaster against Pearl Jam; it didn't affect the band much however. Throughout 1995, members of Pearl Jam worked on solo projects and helped Neil Young with his Mirror Ball album. In 1996 No Code was released with the hit "Hail Hail." In 1998 Yield was released with "Do the Evolution," and "Wishlist" adding to their success. 2000 brought their 6th studio album Binaural, followed by 50 live albums released together covering all of their shows on the Binaural tour. Though alternative music has dwindled, Pearl Jam continues to rock and hold thier unique place in rock history. |
