2001: The Year in Rock
This year's been quite an active one for rock music, with much anticipation for the years ahead.  As 2002, rolls in, the number 1 album and number 1 song on the U.S. Billboard charts are both rock.  Also, two of rock's biggest acts grossed millions in concert revenue this year, with another notorious artist releasing another solo record and kicking off a winter tour.  Another rock recluse rang in 2002 with another concert, in hopes of releasing a highly-anticipated comeback album.  Other rock bands are behind the shadows counting their millions, but at any time could acheive a comeback before our eyes.  What happened this year and what can we expect for the future?  It's all listed right here, as we remember the year 2001 and its ups and downs for rock musicians.
ARTIST OF THE YEAR
successful videos for MTV...you can't go wrong with the fact that Aerosmith was the artist of the year.  I was lucky enough to see the band perform live in one of well over 50 shows they did over the course of the year.  And no words could possibly describe the band as they performed live.  Many have said that U2 was the artist of the year, but go ahead and see both bands live, and you'll most likely see my perspective.  Aerosmith's success continues in to the next year, as Just Push Play heads for multi-platinum status, as another single and video is in the works, and as the band continues performing and adding shows to their never-ending tour.  Some may call the band a bunch of old-timers.  But 50 year old musicians still topping charts, making records, headling events, going on never-ending tours, still performing tirelessly, and remaing hot in the MTV scene are definitely not old-timers, but amazing artists who never stop rocking (there aren't too many people Aerosmith's age who can still play the guitar behind their backs or jump around the stage like they're still 19 years old).  And I don't think you can find too many bands that have been together for over 30 years with the same original members still in the band and still alive.  Call me crazy, but Aerosmith is most definitely the best musician in rock 'n' roll history and will forever hold their legacy as they continue to rock.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
to promote their most recent release, Stiff Upper Lip.  Despite singer Brian Johnson's tiring voice, AC/DC continues to rock and are bigger than ever, as they continue to pack stadiums and please fans around the world.  The 2nd honarable mention has to go to Ozzy Osbourne, as he pushes his limits once again in an effort to rock the world once again.  His fall 2001 release, Down to Earth, headlined by the powerful single "Gets me Through" has already gone gold and is nearing platinum status.  Ozzy is in the process of promoting his album in the Merry Mayhem tour, rocking with his band alongside Rob Zombie in the metal tour that will dominate early 2002.  Not to mention, Ozzy's remarkable performances when he reunited with Black Sabbath on the annual Ozzfest tour.  Ozzfest, an annual concert tour headlined by Ozzy and the best of current metal bands, also ranked among the 20 highest-grossing concerts of 2001.  These were the two Hard Rockers artists who undoubtedly rocked the year along with the "artist of the year"...Aerosmith.
PREDICTIONS FOR 2002
hopes that Guns N' Roses is nearing the end of the recording process of Chinese Democracy.  Hopefully the band will have room to finish, with the temporary cancellation of any touring.  It's terrible to think that Axl is just shoving his former bandmates away, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.  You never know what could actually happen.  There's a lot of stuff going on that fans or the press don't even know about.  All in all, as the pop acts of the late 90s success seems to dwindle, the doors have opened up for the return of rock.  I think we'll see a lot more success on the alternative scene, before true rock comes back from a decade-long hibernation.

ROCK ON!!  Best of luck to rock musicians in the coming year.
There's no doubts here as we give the answer to the above statement.  The artist of the year was most definitely Aerosmith.  They made yet another successful album, and broke their barriers.  This was definitely their year.  From being the top act at one of the most memorable Super Bowl halftime shows of all time, to being inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, to releasing a successful album--Just Push Play--which went platinum within a month of its release, to going on a successful American tour that placed the band 7th on the list of highest-grossing concerts, to acheiving a top-10 single, to making three
This section is very necessary, since more than one Hard Rockers artist was responsible in helping to form a "rock comeback" that seemed to dominate the music scene in 2001.  These bands also had a successful year and will probably continue to rock for some time now.  AC/DC was one of these bands.  Rocking with the same members that wrote the music to the 19 mil.-selling Back in Black after Bon Scott's death in 1980, AC/DC rocked the world in a major tour
Things look very good for the rock world in the coming years.  With the #1 album and song in the country both being rock at the start of the year, you can't really go wrong.  Aerosmith will probably continue to dominate into next year, as they continue touring and as Just Push Play continues to bring the band success.  AC/Dc will most likely go on a break, while Ozzy takes over with the hopeful success of his album and the Merry MAyhem tour.  I have very high
