After a couple of years of performing shows in Pasadena, CA, brothers Eddie (guitars) and Alex (drums) Van Halen went on to form Van Halen in 1974. Michael Anthony (bass) soon was added and they hired David Lee Roth (vocals) as their singer. In 1978, they released their debut self-titled album which |
turned out to be very successful, spawning the hits "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love," "Runnin' With the Devil," and "Jamie's Cryin'," and "You Really Got Me." Their follwup Van Halen II was a great sequel to I with "Dance the Night Away." Throughout the early 80s they continued to make records and establish success. Hit singles like "And the Cradle Wil Rock" and "Unchained" rocked the eighties. On New Year's 1984, Van Halen released their gem 1984. This proved to them their hard rock sound and brought fame to the band. The record included the classics "Jump," "Panama," and "Hot for Teacher" and sold 12 million copies throughout the U.S. It would be Roth's last album when he was fired from the band shortly after. He was replaced by "red rocker" Sammy Hagar. In 1986 "Why Can't This Be Love" and "Dreams" helped boost 5150 to the top of the charts. Hagar helped the band to achieve more gold albums throughout the late eighties and nineties with "When It's Love" and "Right Now"(George W's campaign song). In 1996, a best-of collection was compiled and Hagar was fired. Rumors have recently been circling about the return of Roth and possibly a new album. Nevertheless, with Eddie Van Halen's excellent guitar playing, the good rhythm of Mike and Alex, and a legacy of two great vocalists, Van Halen will continue to rock and their influence on the world will always remain. |
