| 1850-Lach Dennis, a small township 3 miles E S E from Northwich, contains 383a. 2r. 26p. of land, 5 houses and 33 inhabitants. Population in 1801: 43; in 1831: 32; rateable value, £544. 17s. Lach Dennis is included in the grants made to Vale Royal Abbey by Edward I. Abbot Walter exchanged the estates with Randle de Merton for Merton, so early as the reign of Edward VI. The Shakerleys had property here, as had also the Venables of Antrobus. The resident proprietors are the executors of the late Cranage Antrobus, Alfred Low, Esq., Mr Jonathan Butters, and Mr France. There are 209 acres of land in this township tithe-free; the tithes upon the other portion are commuted, the vicarial for £2 and the rectorial, for £6. 9s. 6d. The resident farmers in this township are:- Joseph Bolshaw, Samuel Carter (Newhall), Thomas Plant and Thomas Platt. |
