Helen at the Beach |
It took only a moment for a garnish postcard to trigger memories of Aunt Helen and a sweltering childhood train trip to Florida; Helen of Troy (represented by the small wooden horse standing ominously on the beach below the bag); and the beloved Helen M., mentor and friend (photo on the reverse side). The resulting beach bag is also home for a tennis-playing frog and, on the reverse side, a velcro tic-tac-toe board which creates a possibility of "changeable art." From within the tic-tac-toe game, Helen M.'s ironically affectionate smile blessed Our Ladies of the Beach. Materials: Postcard, variety of beads including vintage plastic and handmade glass; cloisonné sea horse, vintage plastic baby, Florida postage stamp, magazine ad, beach of fine sand, mermaid tattoo, alligator candy wrapper, vintage plastic flowers, photocopy of photograph, velcro tic-tac-toe board and game pieces. |
