Tarija, Bolivia
We visited a USAID-supported oreganic oregano plantwith the Ambassador: above left: a farmer shows his product and fiels. above: onion farmers joined us at the plant to explain their work. left: trying to harvest. below left: with farmers in the plant - they traveled over 4 hours for the event.  Below: explaining the seedlings program.  Far below left: visiting with farmers in the plant.
The next day, we visited a credit union branch in rural Padcaya, Tarija, that was set up with USAID support.  Thanks to this branch, the residents of the area no longer travel hours to go to a bank.  (Below: with the leaders of the credit union).  We also visited the edge of the Sama National Park, where the streams feeding Tarija's water supply originate.  USAID supports local efforts to preserve this natural environment.  (Above and left.)
