Footscray lies at the southern end of the
Maribyrnong River, not far upstream from where the Maribyrnong flows
into the Yarra River. This is the "business end", where heavy
industry is very much in evidence in many places along the river.
Although the Footscray section of the Maribyrnong is less
picturesque than the Essendon and Avondale Heights sections, the
community arts scene is more in evidence here in Footscray. |
This section of the walk starts at Footscray Park, near
Victoria University, which fronts on to Ballarat Road and backs on to
Footscray Park. |

The city skyscrapers can be seen, straight ahead. |
On the other side of the river is Flemington Racecourse,
home of the world famous Melbourne Cup horse race, held on the first
Tuesday in November each year. |
