THE RUINS OF ANTIGUA
Architectural grandeur in Latin America, from the Colonial era onward, is limited to a great extent to the Catholic Cathedrals. Antigua, subject to a series of serious earthquakes over the past 500 years, has many magnificant ruins of such Cathedrals built in the periods between the quakes. Here are a few pictures from my trip.
While this church looks intact and is, indeed, still in use, much of it behind the facade on the left is in ruins.
