Several of these people are buried in the Joliffe Cemetery, near Silver Hill. WINNING owned and operated a stone quarry on Johnson Ridge near his home for several years. Family folklore terms him " a black dutchman" due to his dark characteristics and dutch heritage. Recently a first generation grandson of WINNING told me that he had designed a stirrup which would disengage from the saddle if the rider fell off. A deal had been made with an investor to patent and market the stirrup but for some unknown reason the deal fell through. Another piece of family folklore is that WINNING  delivered mail to his neighbors  from the local post office.  I am  interested in proving or disproving the family folklore.
