Grade 3 |
Welcome to a new school year ! Now you are third graders, and we will continue to have fun learning in Language Arts class. *Phonics: We will not be using the Modern Curriculum Press Phonics Book this year (third-grade level); however, we will be practicing our phonics skills using various games and resources. *Grammar: We will review nouns, verbs, and adjectives. You can review at home by playing some of the games that I have linked for you: Grammar Gorillas and Grammar Blast. We will begin talking about Sentences. We will play some games that will help us recognize what IS and what IS NOT a sentence. We will also review Subjects and Predicates and Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative, and Exclamatory Sentences. *Writing: We will be "stepping up" the writing process this school year beginning as soon as school starts. *Spelling: We will prepare for our Friday spelling tests with games and spelling bees. Make sure you help your child practice every night. Remember to keep practicing Challenge words, as well. The children need to understand that they don't learn how to spell words merely for the test. They are expected to be able to spell those words correctly at all times. *We will be working on syllabication rules which will help us decode longer words. This is based on the Orton Gillingham method of phonics instruction. Students will keep the laminated chart entitled "Kinds of Syllables" in their folder. Visit this website on a weekly basis to see what we'll be learning for the week. Remember to visit the Interesting Language Arts Websites on my welcome page and to review charts. |
