You are invited to Marimba Sol de Chiapas' Chiapas Fundraiser Fiesta

Southern Mexico and Central America were pummeled by Hurricane Stan during the first week of October of this year. Southwestern Chiapas (and western Guatemala) has been devastated by a HUGE amount of flooding and mudslides. As with the thousands affected by hurricanes that recently hit the southern United States and the earthquakes that hit the Middle East, tens of thousands of Chiapans (residence of Mexico’s poorest state!) are experiencing great suffering and are in urgent need of assistance as a result of this natural disaster. Given the very unique way we have been blessed and have blessed others via the rich art, culture, and music of the magical Marimba Chiapaneca, Marimba Sol de Chiapas is compelled to “give back” via our very unique art and medium. Marimba Sol de Chiapas is “extending a mallet to Chiapas” with a Chiapas Fundraiser Fiesta on the evening of Wednesday, November 16th, 2005 from 6pm - 9pm(at least) at La Fonda El Taquito Mexican Restaurant, 800 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64108-2339, (816) 471-1675, on the NW corner of Summit St. and Southwest Blvd. in KC, MO's "West Side Community". The evening will include live music by Marimba Sol de Chiapas (with possible appearances by guest artists), a raffle for a variety of items donated by The Compassion Foundation of KC ranging from housewares to sports items, a silent auction for several authentic Guatemalan marimbas donated by GuatemalanMarimba.com, specially-priced Miller keg “draws”, and more!!! A Marimba Sol de Chiapas: Sampler CD is included with the $5.00 cover charge, and additional copies of the CD are available for only $5 each!!! Proceeds from the cover charge, CD sales, raffle, silent auction, and keg sales will be channeled through Coneculta Chiapas—Chiapas’ cultural arts agency—as to directly assist Chiapas’ artist community affected by Hurricane Stan.
