Celebration breakfast and networking in honor of SSW month.  Michelle Bell MSW, CSW ACSW- SSW, presented her Power Point presentation on the violence prevention programs at Pinconning Central as an example of how Powerpoint can be used in the school.  Matthew Lambertson, Technology Coordinator for BV Schools presented information on crating your own power point presentation.  Business meeting- Elaine Demasi presented Michelle Bell with a plaque for being named SSW of the Year for Region K.  Michelle in now a nominee for the state wide SSW of the year.  Treasurer's report-savings-$188.68, checking $55.94-Total $ 244.62.  Region K now has 47 members. Vice President's report-discussion about next presentation-Michelle will contact a local FIA office to present on child abuse and neglect.  Presiden'ts report-Tom Watkins new Superintendent-reaction has been very positive. There are changes in the MI SpED Rule coming soon.  The local ISD or RESD should have the changes.  Failing School Hearings-there is much debate over this, looking to change the wording. Discussion about laptop computers.  Elaine is working with MEA and NASW.  RegionK mailing list has been revised.  There is a chance our region may be eligible for money through a special project fund due to the number of meetings we have.  MASSW website is running- www.massw-mi.org   MASSW and MATEDC Conference is Nov. 1-3 at Eagle Crest Golf&Conference Resort in Ypsilanti.  Discussed selling t-shirts, sweatshirts with MASSW logo.  The next and final meeting has been changed to May 8th in collaboration with the speaker and EI conference "Tough Kids Toolbox"at Boyne Mountain.  Submitted by Ann Wise-Secretary.

Welcome by President and introductions of all in attendance.  Leisa Crane shared PFLAG information. Tony Wrembelski, Crisis Network Coordinator from Bay ISD discussed crisis response in our schools.  An open forum was also held to share experiences among colleagues.  Business meeting President's report New website www.oocities.org/masswregionk, 2001 Annual Conference: Marriott Ypsilanti Nov 1-3, as of 9-29 there are 20 paid members and 35 unpaid from last year. Renewals need to be in to get discounted member conference rates.  Non MASSW members will have to pay $5 for attending Region inservices/meetings, new letterhead, Region meeting dates:Dec 7 (Midland), March 1 (Bay ISD), May 3 (Saginaw), Region K hosting 2002 State Conference Oct 24-26, 2002 at Soaring Eagle Resort.  Elaine Demasi given ok to use "Soaring to New Heights" as logo, discussion about each committee adn responsibilities, discussion about recipe book to sell for fundraiser at conference, donations given to Elaine to go towards this years auction for PAC.  Treasurer's reportLeisa Crane- $2000 in seed money deposited into savings for Annual Conference.  Total balance in savings is 2239.38 (-$2000 State Funds) and checking balance is $6.03.  Submitted by Ann Wise.
