8/13/03: When a house is built on a hill, the foundation has to follow the contour of the 'undisturbed' soil. This is the hard soil below the loam top soil which must be removed since it has no strength. Have you noticed how springy the ground is walking in a forest? The steps in the wall are only allowed to drop 2 feet each so several were required here.
