Isham Esau MATLOCK
… 3  Isham Esau MATLOCK was born about 1782 in Halifax County, Virginia to Zachariah MATLOCK and Edith PAYNE.  He died on 28 November 1874 in St James, Phelps County, Missouri and was buried in Matlock Cemetery in St. James. Isham married Nancy Ellen HALE about 1805.  Nancy was born about 1786 in Baltimore, Maryland to Meshack HALE and Mary Carl BUCKINGHAM. She died about 1874 in St. James, Missouri and was buried in Matlock Cemetery in St James.

NOTE: (1)Moved to Crawford Co, MO by ox cart in 1839. (2) He was a blacksmith by trade.

MILITARY: War 1812: (1)Isham Matlock; Cpl, Col Wm Johnson, Capt Henry Hunter, E TN Mil; transferred to Capt Millican's Co.. (2)Isham Matlock; Pvt, Col Samuel Wear, Capt Jesse Cole. Vol Inf. Enlisted 18 Oct 1813, 1st Wears's Regt. East TN Vol Militia.  Discharged for wounds received 18 Jan 1814.

Isome MATOCKof the county of Phelps in the State of Missouri...being now in my seventy-fifty year -
Last Will and testament. FIRST - to my beloved wife Nancy after my death all my personal property and real estate to hold and enjoy during her natural life should she survive me at her death I give and bequeath to my youngest son David Boon MATLOCK the following described real estate lying and being situated in the county of Phelps and State of Missouri to wit: The West half of the North West quarter of section No twelve township thirty eight range seven West together with all the improvements and appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining thereto.  SECOND. I desire that at my death should I survive my wife, if not at herthe said Nancy MATLOCK'S death, all my personal property to be sold and after paying my debts and expenses of sale and funeral expenses out of the proceeds arising from the sale thereof that the remainder be equally divided between my beloved children  John MATLOCK, Wm. MATLOCK, Elizabeth COFFMAN, Jesse MATLOCK, Thos MATLOCK, James MATLOCK and David B. MATLOCK to share and share alike and for the purpose of executing the provisions of the foregoing will.  I do appoint John MATLOCK executor of this my Last Will and testament.

He died on 2 November 1899 in Cold Springs Township, Phelps County, Missouri and was buried on 4 November 1899 in Matlock Cemetery, Missouri.  John married Malinda ELLIS on 12 April 1827 in Jonesboro, Washington County, Tennessee. Malinda was born on 17 March 1810 in Tennessee. She died on 28 December 1898 in Phelps County, Missouri and was buried in Matlock Cemetery, Missouri.

NEWSPAPER: November 9, 1899 - John MATLOCK
   At the home of his son, Jerome MATLOCK, November 2, 1899 in Cold Spring township, John Matlock, aged 90 years, 9 months, and 2 days.  He was born in Washington County, Tenn., Jan 31, 1809, and was married in his 17th year to Malinda Ellis.  To this union 13 children were born, 6 boys and 7 girls, 5 of whom are still living.
   He served as justice of the peace 18 years when this was part of Crawford county, and was Presiding Judge of the County Court when this county was formed.
   He moved to this county when quite young and resided here till his death.  He was a life-long democrat and never scratched his ticket.
   His father, Isom Matlock died at the age of 93.
   Uncle John, as he was familiarly called, was the oldest child of the family and was the last to be summoned to his maker.
   He was buried at Matlock cemetery, on the farm of Jos Simily, Saturday, Nov 4th 1899.

…… 4 William MATLOCK was born on 18 November 1813 in Washington County, Tennessee. He died about 1893 in St. James, Missouri.  William married Lydia MCKINNEY about 1846 in Missouri. Lydia was born about 1828 and died about 1870 in Missouri.

NOTE: Sarah after moving to MO soon developed Tuberculosis.  As her health soon declined, she expressed a desire to go back to TN to spend her last days.  James took her back to TN, then returned to MO, but had returned to TN shortly at the time of her death.  He again returned to MO, married again and fathered several children.
