Moore Matlock Sr
There is much controversy on the father of Moore.  Some researchers believe that his father is John III who married Ann South.  Then there are people like me who believe that he is son of William Matlock and wife Catharine.  Neither of these assumptions have been proven. Guess it's just what you choose to believe from your facts.

.1 Moore MATLOCK Sr. was born about 1730 in Goochland County, Virginia to William MEDLOCK and Catharine UNKNOWN. He died April 1812 in Roane County, Tennessee.  Moore married Jane POWELL about 1752 in Virginia.  Jane was born about 1735 in Prince George County, Virginia to Edward POWELL and Elizabeth RANSOM. May have been born Bristol Parish. She died after 1790. She is not on any deeds in Tennessee saying that she relinquished her dower rights.

NOTES:(1)In my researching it appears that William Matlock born 1702 in New Kent, then later in Goochland, Halifax, Bedford Co, VA is the father of Moore Matlock.  Some researchers have that he is son of John Medlock Jr.
(2)He was in Halifax Co, VA before coming to Washington Co, TN.  Jane's father Edward named Jane Medlock in his will.  His inventory named Moore Medlock as her husband.
(3)Moore Matlock appointed as overseer 16 Oct 1755 "Halifax Order Bk 2 pt 1, pg 69"
(4)William Matlock who died in Bedford County, VA is more than likely the father of Moore father. Because Moore and William appear in Halifax County around the same time.  No other Medlock there.
(5)Moore and John wit: a court document together in Louisa Co, VA in 1753. This Moore appears to be the one that was born 1717.
(6)Denise who descends from Littleberry has a daughter listed for Moore and Jane. She has Jane Powell Matlock. I have not found this.

MARRIAGE: Possibly in Halifax or Bedford Co, VA. (abt 1752 need proof of date)

CENSUS:
(1)Reconstructed Census "1760 in VA": Medlock, Moore Halifax 31:36, 31:166. (31)Halifax Co VA  Pleas No 3 (court order) 1759-1762.

(3)1784-1787 VA, Halfiax Co; Jane Matlock, 6 white males, 1 black male. Moore Matlock probably in TN.
(2)1790 VA, Halifax Co; Jane Matlock; 6 white males. Moore Matlock in TN.

(2)Moore Matlock 1812 in Capt Matlock and Walker's Co. (This was more that likely Moore Jr.)
