Bera Svensdottir
- Age: 16
- Marital Status: Single.
- Occupation: Student, Research Assistant (compiles parents' notes for their various theses).
- Former Occupations:
- Residence: Ever so tiny cubicle apartment in Terran Headquarters.
- Laran gift and laran training:
- Politics: Interested in what makes things tick. Knows enough about Federation politics to be very, very afraid.
- Personality: "16 going on 50." Otherwise mostly quiet. However, change is imminent.
- Strengths: Can learn most languages easily. Fairly resourceful
in keeping her innermost thoughts/feelings hidden from parents and
Psych Section. She had her own pony on Iceland so she can ride
competently. Grandmothers taught her to knit, crochet, embroider, and
cook. Loves to read. Plays the pan pipes fairly well. Feels "at
home" on Darkover. She takes every opportunity she can to leave the Terran
Section and sit with some of the elderly women at their stalls and
share knitting techniques.
- Weaknesses: Too passive in some situations. Loves reading the
Darkovan Inquirer. Parents (and Terran authorities) consider her love
of talking to the locals about knitting & stuff and her preference
for the local clothing a weakness.
- Combat training:
- Horseback riding:
- Appearance: 5-feet tall. Slender, yet muscular (works out).
Figure just developing. Has absolutely HUGE blue/gray eyes that are surrounded by eyelashes to kill for! She has light brown delicate eyebrows. Brown hair with dark red highlights that is more than wavy but less than curly. Hair reaches past waist when unbraided. She has VERY pale skin and blushes easily. She also has 6 fingers and toes. She seems to have inherited them from her father's mother's father's mother.
- Romantic relationships:
- Friends:
- Family: Only daughter of Sven Larsson and Hildy Thorkilssdottir.
Brother Erik is almost 20 years older and in the Federation Space Service. Sven is a geological engineer for a private corporation. Hildy specializes in textile development by non or low tech
civilizations. Bera doesn't know why they're here or how her father got travel visas to Cottman IV.
- Pets:
- Hobbies:
- Other Information: Bera spent most of her life being raised by both sets of grandparents in Iceland as her parents flitted about on their respective career concerns. She's only been traveling with her parents for the last year since the untimely deaths of both sets of
grandparents in a shuttle accident. She resents the fact that her parents "forced" her to accompany them instead of letting her stay at home with the rest of her extended family. She misses her books and her pony and her garden. Bera's family can trace lineage back to first settlement of Iceland by Norwegians. She has a broad background of local myths and legends. Can recite most of the sagas and has even seen the original "book of landing" at the university in Reykjavik.
Her childhood was filled with tales of giants, trolls, land spirits, etc., which could explain what has been happening to her lately: she's been seeing colors around people. She's been seeing
small "beings" moving swiftly from the corners of her eyes. Every 10-day since she's been here (her family has been on Cottman IV for six months now), she sets out a very tiny dish of cream and honey on the stand by her bed. It's empty the next morning--not even sticky! Yesterday, she woke up holding a warm and throbbing something in her hand only to find that it was an egg-shaped blue stone the size of a large pigeon's egg. When she took a good look at it, she threw up.
Yet by the time she got everything cleaned up it was like she'd had it forever. She's been having headaches and nausea. Her parents are almost 7 days overdue from their backcountry trip. She doesn't like the way one of the pompous jerk brains in the complex has been looking at her. Now, something (or several somethings) are tugging at her clothes. Voices in her head are telling her she has to leave.NOW!
She's not safe here! Out! Out! Out!
