GODARD POETRY

In the spirit of Annie Dillards book: "Mornings Like This" (which has nothing to do with Godard) I've taken some of the words that Godard has spoken and written and made them into something like poetry.
Film is truth
at
twenty-four-frames
per-second

****

Cinema is not a reflection
of reality
It is the reality
of the reflection

As a moviemaker
I'm between
Coppola and
The Minister of Information
in Mozambique

People like to think of themselves as
stations or terminals
not as trains or planes
between airports.
I like to think of myself
as an airplane,
not an airport.

There are too many things in the game,
too many women,
too much money,
too many stories,
too much law,
too many dreams,
too many calculations,
too much oversight.
And that is what people like.
Film is
a revolutionary art.
Because it is the sensation
of movement
and such a sensation
doesn't exist
with a Grecian urn

I am very intereted
in noise.
Even when a small blade of grass
is growing,
there is a noise between the grass
and the earth.

When you use the camera
as a weapon
you become
an informer

I would say that
from the moment that we stole from life
its own image,
where the representation was the theft,
it was necessary to "grieve"...
So the film was invented
in black and white
in order to grieve for life.
Trying to make a movie
with an Italian producer
is like trying
to speak
with a pig

Simplicity is virtuous
Candor is elegant
And in film
you could say that
Imperialism is a sect of people
who want to make a movie
their way.

****

The moment our society
creates its own destiny
and calls its own liberty "destiny",
destiny returns the ball
and calls this liberty "limited"

People think of their bodies
as territories.
They think of their skin
as the border,
and that it is no longer them
once it's outside the border.
But a language
is obviously made to cross
borders
I'm someone whose real country
is language,
and whose territory
is movies
