Genealogy Stories
putting some meat on them bones
This is my attempt to add some substance to the skeletons of ged files I have only just begun this journey I will try and provide the source of my information where I can.
Mary Metcalf Blight and Joseph Harris

Mary Metcalf Blight was born in St Austel Cornwall her parents were Henry Blight and Jane Penall. She came to Australia with her mother and sister
(Ian Howie Willis has a lot more information on this family) she married Joseph Harris(parents James and Mary Anne Nicholas) in Creswick Victoria in 1852 . They had 6 children and at some point Joseph left the family and Mary was left to raise the family and run a business in Creswick. She died in Creswick Victoria in 1895, Joseph died in Kew in 1889

I have a photo of
Mary Blight , four of her 6 children and her children with her grandchildren

The names included in the pictures are Bothroyd Stanford and Howie.

I also have a picture of
Joseph Harris, I am not quite sure how the family came into possesion of this picture as far as I know there was little contact after he left the family, the photo is also labelled as William Harris.

The Harris Bright genes must have been strong as I can see some uncanny resemblances to some of my family members today. I have added to the list of to dos to put some piccies up of current day relatives compared to their ancestors :)

Charlotte Harris and William Bothroyd

Charlotte was born in 1869 in Creswick and Married William Bothroyd (born Bunninyong near Ballarat 1865 "drapers salesman of Casterton", parents William Bothroyd and Margaret Birmingham) on September 9th in 1891 at Creswick. Charlotte was a writer and an artist there a couple of drawings that are still around today, along with a book she wrote entitled "Stories for my Grandchildren". Charlotte and William's Children were born in Casterton, Corryong and Melbourne. Many of the Bothroyd children were also quite "arty" Leila Bothroyd has an Artists file at http://manuscripts.slv.vic.gov.au. William and Charlotte went to Rome to see one of her exhibitions.

Only 2 of the Bothroyd children (Valmai and John) died in Australia, the others all died overseas.

Thomas Carlyle Bothroyd was a teacher, he was teaching in Gipsland around WW1 then in England. He was apparently quite ill as a child. Whilst teaching in England he became ill, his parents left Australia to look after him. Charlotte became ill also and died around 1937, William was to return home to Australia but WW2 broke and he too died in England.

To my knowledge Thomas, and Leila never married and died in England ??

Violet is said
(Ian) to have married and died in USA

I have quite a few photos of this family.

Charlotte Bothroyd (nee Harris) this includes a photo of her and William Bothroyd in what looks like England

Thomas Carlyle Bothroyd born July 9th 1894/5
