ARTHUR McARTHUR TELLS IT HOW IT IS
A scene from the smash hit Broadway Comedy

“It’s Amazing How Easily People Are Fooled”

Kevin Rudd, in business shirt and shorts, sits at his desk, pats Ken Henry’s head and reads the latest Newspoll, singing:

"I talk about global warming while they're all being cooled,
An 'education revolution' when they're all being schooled,
Of values like freedom, when they're all being ruled,
It's amazing how easily people are fooled".

"They have an opinion but they'll be overruled,
Their method of free thought is being retooled,
Their envy and self interest are readily fueled,
It’s amazing how easily people are fooled”.

“I’ll change my direction like a wave in a pool,
Anything to be nice, I can’t appear cruel,
Inconsistent and vacuous, an inept tool,
It’s amazing that nobody sees I’m a fool.”

Julia Gillard, Wayne Swan & Lindsay Tanner burst into Rudd’s office, in chorus:

“The fools cannot see that we’re destroying this place,
The budget surplus is gone, spent without a trace,
We need more hair-brained ideas to give us some breathing space,
We’re going to end up with egg all over our face.”

Rudd, standing atop his desk:

“Don’t worry my friends, pass that bottle of Grange,
We’ll drink to our success, and the masses deranged,
And when the heat comes back on, we’ll quickly arrange
For Penny Wong to prattle on about Climate Change”.

Gillard, Swan & Tanner all join Rudd atop his desk, arms outstretched, singing loudly and proudly, while Ken Henry pokes his head up from under Rudd’s desk:

“Every policy we’ve initiated is dismally failing,
But thankfully somehow it’s still all smooth sailing,
The media is complicit,  Treasury support unfailing,
And Kevin’s mate is the Editor for ‘The Australian’.”

Lights fade, curtain call.
