You are 29 years old and unmarried in a time and place that looks at you as one who simply couldn't get a man. You live with your mother and aunt and they treat you as a child. The only thing you look forward to is dreaming of your Blue Castle in Spain. You have never been in love and it seems that romance will never visit you. Not a wonderful image, huh? Well, this was Valancy's life in the beginning of The Blue Castle.
The thought of a long life was very bitter to her. But all this changed, because it "rained on a certain May morning". I am not going to tell you what happens after this, because I don't want to spoil the book. (If that is possible!) I must say that this is a wonderful book and you will want to read it over and over again! At least I did! |
