Introduction
Spring is here! We have been learning about bugs and insects over the past two weeks. Now it's time to learn about something new - caterpillars and butterflies! We will learn  in class about the very special event in which a fuzzy caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly. You will begin to learn about this by completing this online project with your Mommy or Daddy!

At the end of this project, you'll be able to tell me: Where do butterflies come from? You'll also give me a special picture you colored.
The Task
Your job is to look at three very special websites that talk about caterpillars and butterflies. Your Mommy or Daddy can read the words to you while you look at the pictures. You'll learn how caterpillars turn into butterflies. When you've finished listening to Mommy and Daddy reading, you'll color in a beautiful picture of a butterfly!

The Process
Are you ready? The first thing you need to do is have your Mommy or Daddy read this whole list of jobs to you. Do good listening so you'll know how to start! This webquest should take about 20 minutes to do on the computer. Then you'll spend a few minutes coloring in a picture on your own.

1) Visit
www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly. When you arrive, scroll down a little bit to the Table of Contents. Click on What Is A Butterfly?, which is under the heading All About Butterflies. When you arrive at this page, ask your Mommy or Daddy to read the sections titled What is a Buttefly, Flying, and Life Cycle of a Butterfly. Look at the pictures while Mommy or Daddy are reading. This page explains all about butteflies and how they begin as caterpillars. When you're done listening, click on the "back" arrow at the upper left hand corner of the page to get back to these directions.

2) Next, visit
www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/buttefly/activities/printouts/lifecycle.shtml . Trace your finger over the steps of the life cycle of a butterfly. Mommy and Daddy don't need to read these words. Say what each picture is as you trace your finger over it. When you're done, click on the "back" arrow at the upper left hand corner of the page to get back to these directions.

3) Finally, visit
www.coloring.ws/butterfly1.htm There are many pictures of butterflies on this page. Choose your favorite one and click on it. A bigger version of that picture should appear. Ask Mommy or Daddy to help you print that picture. Then color it in using at least 5 different colors. Make your butterfly as beautiful as you can. Finally, write your name on your picture.  When the page has finished printing, click on the "back" arrow at the upper left hand corner of the page to get back to these directions.

4) Coloring in your picture is the last thing you need to do. When you're all finished, bring it to school to show Melanie!

Am I Done?
You are all done if you listened to the webpages and looked at the pictures. You are also all done if you have a colored in butterfly picture that has at least 5 colors. Count the colors and make sure you used 5. Check to see if you wrote your name on your picture. If you have finished all of this, then you are done!
