*It is thought these two children were from Jame's first marriage (wife is unknown). His first wife may have died at a young age, and Mary was his second wife.
James and Mary moved to Cherokee County Alabama before 1860 (the family records I have say 1858), according to census data. James Jr. was living in Marchall County, AL in 1880 according to my family records. In 1889, son in law J.T. Compton was made administrator of the estate of his in laws. In some family records that belonged to my great grandmother, I have James dying in 1888 in Alabama, however, these are handwritten, quite possibly from memory or family story. James' occupation was a cabinet maker.
