Slack Obituaries
WAYNE SLACK
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday in Friendship Baptist Church, Polk county, by the Rev. Lestor Lewis for Wayne Slack who passed away Friday in a Dayton, Ohio hospital. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Murphy-Buckner directing.
Well known in the Cleveland area as a ball player, he had played for several years on local teams and for a year managed a girls softball team. He had been active in the Chattanooga softball league.
Mr Slack is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bell Slack of Aiken, SC, three sisters; Mrs. Henry Newberry of Lima, Ohio, Mrs. Lester Henderson of of Dalton, GA, Mrs. Berley Ellis of Aiken, SC- four brothers; Euyless and Paul of Cleveland, Ray and Blaine of Dayton, Ohio.
The body will remain at the home of his brother, Euyless Slack on Tunnel Hill road until the service hour.
MRS. ALICE SLACK
CLEVELAND, TENN- Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Slack Bates, 65, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Friendship Baptist Church in Polk County. The Revs. Carl Gamble and S.C. Buckner will officiate. Mrs Bates died in a Knoxville hospital early Sunday morning after several months illness. She is survived by her husband Lester Bates, three sons, Oscar and J.L. Bates of Detroit, Mich, and Jimmy Bates of Cleveland; Five daughters, Mrs Joe Goforth of Athens, Tenn.; Mrs Henry Trentham, James Grooms, and Mrs. James Jones of Cleveland; a brother Herbert Slack of Cleveland, 17 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
