Break out of frames!

  Spring Fairy
It's time again to play in the dirt! That wonderful time of
the year when anyone can be an artist simply by mixing and blending the colors of nature.

Given the selection of annuals available, it can be difficult to make up
your mind, but if you sit back and study what you would like to enjoy
for the growing season, it really is very simple! Below are some of the
garden themes I incorporate in my yard in various beds. I prefer no
rhyme or reason when I place my flower beds, I just look at a spot
and decide whether or not I want some flowers there...
I think my favorite flower bed is the moonlite bed I make for myself
every year. This is a bed consisting of all white flowers. White reflects
the moonlight and on a summers night, you can almost feel magic in
the air as you sit among the glowing flowers. It truely is a wonderful
effect! You can mix impatiens, allysum, petunias and some nicotina for
a fragrant, beautiful place to relax on hot summer nights. If the moon
isn't cooperating, ground candles will suffice.
My blue garden is the second favorite of the season. You can go so
many directions with this one! One year I planted a bed of all shades of
blue annuals with a little light violet mixed in. The next year I added
just a shock of yellow here and there. Now I have added some
perrenials into the annuals for scent effect. I have a small amount of
lavender and a little bit of chamomile mixed around because it's such a
nice refreshing smell on a hot humid august night.
And now, the reds and yellows and oranges! These are wonderful mood
setters! Birds and Butterflies love them and they will draw a crowd in
the morning. If the sound of birds bother you in the morning, don't
plant these...it's the perfect alarm clock as far I'm concerned. You
would be surprized at what a great mood this can put you in for the
rest of the day! I load up a flower bed right outside my bedroom
window and not only do I enjoy the beautiful sounds of the song birds
at dawn, but my Cats get the thrill of a lifetime!

Another of my mood setters is the Victorian Princess garden. That's
what I like to call it. This is where I sit when I want to feel prim and
proper and oh so pampered. This little patch is full of pansies, sweet
allysum, violas, pink and tangerine impatiens and one part of it is shady
enough for several types of dusty miller. I have also added perrenials
here. Baby's breath and some scented geraniums finish off the effect.

This is where we'll end it for now. There are other gardening pages you
might like to visit on my site. Please come again soon and see what else
has been added! Enjoy your spring, and remember that even the smallest
area can accomodate your gardening moods. Until the last three years,
all of my garden was in pots. I was finally free to express myself in
flowerbeds. But even in the city you can create wonderous gardens in
containers and place them around to create your own little world of
nature.
