Fortunately the children have in adult life been reunited with the extended family.

I was interested in your website because of the Thorogood name and particularly Emily who married Henry James Hince as they're my grt grt grandparents.
I have to let you know that Emily is not the daughter of Joseph Thorogood but rather James and Amelia nee Nunn who arrived originally in Perth in 1853 aboard the Sabrina, James died on board before making it to Aust. Emily was born abt 1847 in Great Wilbraham, Cambridge, England. the family moved to Victoria. I have marriage certs as sources. The Hortop family came on the Amazon from Plymouth 2 Jan 1856 and arrived at Port Adelaide on 8 Apr 1856, with 297 souls landed as government immigrants - Daniel Hortop 40, a Mason from Devonport, Devon, with Mary A Hortop 39, Johanna or Joanna 10 and Emily either 4 or 1, with Mary A Hortop 15 and Robert 14 listed as 'single adults'.

Daniel Hortop and Mary Ann Wymouth came to South Australia and registered John's birth at Balhannah in 1856, so giving us Mary's surname.
