Thomas Maddison 26 May, 1822 - 22 July, 1896 aged 74 son of Sarah Pepper and Robert Maddison born at Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England, wed 9 Sept 1850 at All Souls, StMarylebone, Middlesex, England to Mary Gibson c1825 - 7 Dec 1908 daughter of Elizabeth Smart and James Gibson born at Horsham, Sussex, England
Thomas & Mary worked in Westminster, London in the household of William Ellice (merchant). Neither mentioned they were married on the 1851 census presumably so they could keep their positions. Thomas was a footman and Mary a kitchen maid. They migrated to Australia around 1851 and their first child in Australia was born in Beechworth 1855. Thomas’ occupation in 1855 was Confectioner. When their 2nd son was born, Thomas was now a miner at Ovens River. They then followed the gold to Morses Creek (Bright) in 1861. Their last child, Edward was born in Harrietville. They finally settled in Corryong were Thomas was a farmer.

The James Brown arrived January 1853 with over 500 Assisted British Immigrants, including Alexander Malcolm aged 31, Charlotte Malcolm aged 34 and two infants Alexander and Mary Ann both aged 1 year
Alexander born in Nottingham died 1853 #1957 aged 2, and a son William Frederick was born 1859 #3112, both with their mother listed as Charlotte Sheet/Sheat.

Extract from the Liverpool Times Aug 3, 1854 - the Indian Ocean a ship of 1080 tons owned by HR Hoskins left London July 8 bound for Portland Bay, arriving in Portland, Victoria on 6th October, 1854 with 427 Assisted British Immigrants including Margaret and Alexander Malcolm who both gave their ages as 19.

Alexander Stewart Malcolm wed 07 May 1854 at Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland and also on 19 May 1854 at Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, and came October 1854 on the Indian Ocean with Margaret Lessels/Leslie and settled at Hamilton

In August 1854 the Bride Of The Sea brought 467 Assisted British Immigrants including James More aged 30 and Margaret More aged 26

A fellow passenger was Catherine Coulter, recorded at Eyre family web pages, who married Daniel Eyre at Emerald, Victoria which is now South Melbourne, on the 28th August, 1857. Catherine had arrived at the Port of Geelong, Victoria 11th August, 1854 on the sailing ship "Bride of the Sea" having left Liverpool on the 26th May, 1854. Catherine was listed as "housemaid" from Fifeshire, Scotland, aged 18 years, could read and write, to be employed by Mr. G Gouly of James Street Geelong for sum of twenty pounds for unknown period. The passenger list showed an abundance of Celtic young girls, the youngest on this trip was 14 years of age, as assisted passengers they were indentured to the sponsor for a set period of time.
Another passenger, Patrick Fahy, 38, born in Galway, arrived in 1854 in the Bride of the Sea; died of consumption recorded The ARGUS Supplement, Saturday, September 12, 1868
