Subject: W F Sargison
Hello,
We have been doing some conservation work in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin, New Zealand and have rescued a wooden headstone recording, though faded and patchy to read, the death of Eliza Sargison wife of W F Sargison of Arthur St, Dunedin.
Our interest is mainly to try and find out just what it looked like when originally erected so we can restore it and put is up again.
So, if these are the same people as on your family tree perhaps we can help each other? Kind regards

Scott

David Scott c1804 came from Scotland in 1853 with two sons and his wife Helen and the younger family arrived in Port Phillip September 1854 per the Oracle and joined David who was a baker in Bendigo. His son James Alfred Scott was a baker in Bridgewater and was the father of Isabella (Bella) Scott
Son James Alfred Scott

1. Isabelle (Bella) Scott 1872 - 2 Dec 1899, wed 13 Mar 1895 to David Russell Arnold 21 May 1845 - 25 Nov 1917, widower with 8 living children, whose first wife died following the birth of their ninth child, who also died.

On 24 July 2001 I received the following details from a very kind researcher -
I have just received the death certificate of Bella ARNOLD (SCOTT). The death is registered in the name of Elizabeth Isabella ARNOLD - 2nd December, 1899 - cause of death Emphysema, Influenza and Tuberculosis, she had no children of her own.
Isabella Helen SCOTT was born on 29th July, 1871 Wambangalang Station, near Dubbo NSW, the eldest of 12 children, her parents James Alfred and Sarah SCOTT.

The date of arrival into Australia of some members of the SCOTT family, from Scotland via Liverpool, England, is a bit uncertain. In 1853 her grandfather David SCOTT (49) with sons David (18) and James Alfred (11) arrived in Bendigo, but to date I've not been able to locate the passenger record, however, his wife Helen SCOTT (40) with the younger children Walter (8) William (6) & Margaret (infant) arrived in Port Phillip September 1854 per the "Oracle" along with another SCOTT family, head of that family also named David (46) his wife Elizabeth (38) & their children. (related somewhere along the SCOTT line)
Our David SCOTT owned several properties in Bendigo, including his house & bakery located in Bridge St
Some time before 1868 James Alfred SCOTT (Isabella's father) went to NSW, there is no record of a marriage to wife Sarah, they lived around the Dubbo area for many years and had 7 of their children, about 1883 James Alfred & family returned to Bendigo and resided in Bridgewater, several more children are born and some died.
The older SCOTT's David & Helen (Ellen) died 1892 & 1893. Isabella married David Russell ARNOLD in 1895 - then about 1896 the whole SCOTT family left Victoria and went to live in Western Australia, leaving Bella alone with her new family.
There are many gaps to fill regarding the SCOTT family and hopefully when I next visit Bendigo I'll be able to piece together the puzzle.
Do you know of any photographs of Bella or places that she lived?
Hope this information is of interest to you, if you discover any new information regard her or her family please let me know.
