John James Trevatt aged 23 came to Victoria in Apr 1874 on the Carlisle Castle

Having that new fact has been most interesting.
The Carlisle Castle ended its life being wrecked on Coventry Reef in 1899, 3 miles West of Penguin Island near Rockingham WA. My Auntie Dot, John James' granddaughter lives at Shoalwater, about 1Km East of Penguin Island.

My Mother and my two Aunts spent a great deal of time at Rockingham when they were young, swimming within a few miles of the wreck of the sip that brought their Grandfather to Victoria.

Wow!!

Subject: Genealogy: Relationship to Charles Trevatt
Elizabeth...
I am related to the Trevatt family of Charles Trevatt 1844 who married Sarah Anne Appleby 1861.
In fact he would be my 1st Cousin 3 removed.
Our common ancestor was John Trevatt 1784 Pulborough Sussex and Hester Child, they being my maternal Gr Gr Gr Grandparents.
I think Charles would have been the originator of the "Trevatt Apricot" variety in Mildura - An excellent variety, that produces large, pale skinned fruit. The orange flesh is firm, juicy & is suitable fresh or for preserving, cooking & stewing.

Thanks for the reply.
The info has added to our knowledge. We did not know William Griggs first name nor his parents. The locality of Beaufort sounds spot on. My Grandfather, Harvey Trevatt was born in Beaufort. We think Mary Jane's parents were Richard McDonald and Brigette McLean in Ireland. The baby who died would have to be Mary (1885).
We would also like to know when John James and his 1st cousin 1r, Charles, emmigrated. I have not had much to do with shipping lists, though I have details of how other relations have emmigrated.

John James Trevatt is my Gr Grandfather.
He was the second of three husbands for Mary Jane McDonald.
