23 Dec 1864 - Elected first President of the Marong Shire Council and served as President from 1864 until 1867. Was a councillor for fifteen years. At this time he was also Chairman of the Marong Districts Road Board.

A reconstruction suggests that William Yeo and his sons Henry, and Michael came to Victoria 1863 and Henry decided to stay.

Looking at the records does not tell the real story. From on Mon, 6 Dec 2004 Hi Elizabeth, I am the daughter of Ernest Wilson and Amy Estelle Yeo whose father was Alfred John Yeo who married Hannah Eva. Alfred and Hannah had six children, Alick 1900-1905, Amy Estelle (1903-1970), Alex (born and died 1905), Henry William (born 1908), Eva (born 1908) and Allen James (born 1913). I have traced my family back through Henry Yeo's second wife (Jane Geake his first wife died of typhoid six weeks after arriving in Melbourne) Catherine Jury/Jory/Billing. Henry Yeo was born in 15 May 1831 at Stowford. His age is out by three years in various documents but the best is the Lifton 1841 and 1851 censuses which prove he was born in 1831 to William and "Sally" - Sarah Milford. William married a second time, another Sarah and had more children. I am presently waiting for a certificate from England to establish her maiden name. The earliest Yeo I have is: Able (Abell) Yeo, wife Jane Small, married on 17 APR 1676 Hatherleigh, Devon, England Children from the above marriage: Thomas Yeo born on 26 OCT 1680 Hatherleigh, Devon, England Jane 21 JUN 1701 Hatherleigh, Devon, England Richard born 16 APR 1678 Hatherleigh, Devon, England, died 6 May 1678. I have Catherine Billing 's details you may care to add: she was born in 1838 at Gwennap, Cornwall to William Jory and Grace, nee Billing. Catherine was a dressmaker who married Silas (also spelled Cylus) Billing in 1855. She had six children of whom four, all named William died in infancy. William and Frederick survived to adulthood and she took them to Australia after Silas died in 1868. She married the widower Henry Yeo on 29 Jan. 1873 at Long Gulley. He had two boys from his first marriage to Jane Geake, Henry and Richard who had come to Australia with their mother in 1870. Henry and Catherine had one more child, Alfred John born in 1875, my grandfather. Catherine Yeo died a widow in 1903 in Port Melbourne. Death certificates list amongst other useful information "Issue in order of birth, the names and ages". I calculated Norman Thompson Yeo's birth date from that. In another case, I was able to do that and trace the person's descendants who didn't know their own grandfather's background. I was hoping to get photographs of mutual ancestors that way. Didn't work :( in that instance.
