Both The Statistical Account of Scotland for 1791-99 and that for 1845
have fairly extensive chapters on the parish of Dry'sdale (various
spellings - also comes up as Dryfesdale) which was in the Synod of
Dumfries (in south west Scotland). If you are interested you can read
the whole document at:
http://edina.ac.uk/cgi/StatAcc/StatAcc.cgi
Click on the "Search" tab then select "both" under Account and "parishes" under Search and type "Dryfesdale" in the Term box. You should find two matches - one for each of the two Statistical Accounts.
Odd little side comment - Walter McAlpine was the clergy man who wrote a report on Culross, in 1791-99. | ||

Thanks that is my great grandfather Colonel W S Drysdale. He is buried
in Arlington, Cemetery in the United States. I really appreciate the
tip about the websites. WS Drysdale was baptized in Rawalpindi, born
in Murree, Pakistan. I have a photo of his father William in uniform
surrounded by his Sikhs and Rajputs sepoys taken in this area circa
1880. I am trying to piece together his brothers and other family
members buried here in India. |
