Maelee and her husband Ted, adopted a child when
she was two. The little girl named Marcy, was
orphaned at the age of fifteen months when her
daddy went to sleep while driving one night on a
seldom traveled road in east Texas. The child’s
parents were killed instantly. It took over fifteen
hours for the accident to be discovered because of the
remote location. The car hit a tree and had come to
rest several yards off the road in a ditch that was
covered with thick brush and vines.

Everyone had said it was a miracle that the little girl
survived the crash and the time it took for her to be
found still strapped in her car seat. Maelee and Ted
were happy to have this beautiful child and thanked
God for her. They were puzzled every time Marcy
would mention the kind friend who stayed with her
the night of the accident.

They took her to church and Sunday school every
Sunday. One night when Maylee was reading a Bible
story to four year old Marcy about Jesus, she showed
her the pictures in the book. Maelee then ask Marcy if
she knew who the person was in these pictures. The
child answered “Yes!! He is ‘my kind friend’ who
stayed with me that night my mommy and daddy died
in the car. He held me in His hug and talked to me
saying not to be afraid, until the policeman got there
the next day to help me!!”

Maelee was surprised to hear Marcy’s account of that
night over two years ago when her parents were
killed in that car crash. She now knew the miracle
that Marcy had lived was because The Lord was
taking care of her during all those hours before the
policeman had found the child still strapped in her
car seat. Maelee now knew “the kind friend” that
Marcy had mentioned all this time was Jesus.
