On that cold January night in 1973 the
telephone rang. Jerry’s twin sister, Jenny
had been in an auto accident and was asking for
him. As twins they had been so close as
children, but Jenny had moved to another state
when she got married. Jerry and his wife
Kathy had moved to the family farm two years
ago after his mother died. He now drives the
forty five minutes to town everyday to go to
his job.
Jerry didn’t like to leave
Kathy because she was eight months pregnant
with their first child. He managed to get a
plane ticket for early the next morning and a
return ticket late that night. He knew that
her doctor could get there in forty five
minutes and would be only a phone call away,
if she needed him.
That morning as Jerry
left for the airport it had just started to
snow. He didn’t know this would be the day
for the worst snow storm in over twenty
years.
After Jerry left Kathy went about
her busy day doing the things she did around
the farm. About mid day she noticed the snow
had greatly intensified and was accumulating
very rapidly. Her electric power was out
and she discovered the phone wasn’t working
either. She got under the covers on her bed
and fell asleep. She awoke some time later
with a great pain in her abdomen. She tried
the telephone again and it still wouldn’t
work. She put on her coat and went to the
old truck but it wouldn’t start. She went
back in the house and got back under the
covers where she ask God to watch over her
and her baby. She again fell asleep. This
time when she awoke the pain was so bad she
knew something was very wrong. Again Kathy
prayed for God to watch over them.
Kathy
heard a loud knocking at her door. She got up
and when she opened the door there stood Dr.
Jones with his medical bag. Kathy told the
doctor to come in. He could see how much
pain she was in so he got her back in bed and
then he delivered her baby boy. The delivery
was a rough one because the baby was in the
breech position, but Dr. Jones knew just
what to do.
After the delivery Dr. Jones
took Kathy’s baby to her. As she took the
baby she ask the doctor why he had come to
see about her on that day. He answered saying
“Your friend came to my door and told me
that you needed my help and so did your
baby!” Kathy was puzzled, so she ask the
doctor what friend had come to him. The
doctor said he didn’t know the young woman
and it seemed a little strange that he didn’t
see a car she could have came in. She had
pounded at his door and told him to come
immediately or the baby would die and then
she was gone.
Kathy never found out who
got her help on that snowy day and Dr. Jones
never saw the young woman again. Kathy knew
in her heart that God had sent an angel to
get her help that January day. The next Sunday
Kathy and Jerry took their new son to church
where they dedicated him to God. They also
gave thanks to Him for the angel who sent
the doctor to help.
