Purdue Locomotive Designs
In my free time lately I have been coming up with some more potential paint schemes for my Purdue locomotive fleet. Most of the paint schemes that I have come up with are my own interpretations of some current or previous paint schemes from railroad here in the United States.
Purdue 197 was a paint scheme that I came up with that had some aspects of the Monon Railroad. The locomotive is
a General Electric U33B. Although the Monon did not have any U33B's, I opted to go with this locomotive as it would be
a challenge to paint in reality after I finish up my current locomotive project with PUR 9904.Purdue 1869 is a design I came up with mixing in the old with the new. The SD70M made by EMD is one of the more
recent models of locomotives that have become available to railroads. However, one of the more well known paint
schemes in railroad history was the "Warbonnet" paint scheme of the Santa Fe. Purdue 1869 does it's best to take in the
major aspects of the "Warbonnet" scheme but in Black and Old Gold.Purdue 2004 goes back to some more "old school" roots. This time it is my own take on the Southern Railroad's paint
scheme. Although I have raised the white stripe area up from the base of the walkway, most enthusiasts probably
recognized a similarity to the old Southern paint scheme. Also typical is the high "nose" of the locomotive in front of
the operators cab. Pending the results of my first two locomotives that I will be painting from designs I came up with,
I may consider making this the third locomotive in my fleet of Purdue locomotives. Keep checking to see what happens.
