A True Friend

His love of our country strong, never to bend,
I pen this ode for a LRRP, teammate, most of all a friend.
His father died in Korea leaving a son behind.
Being a soldier like his dad, always on his mind.

As a kid he went off to keep America free;
After two tours in the Nam the truth wasn't so to see.
With the Bid Red One he served with pride;
Realities of war were harsh, good friends died.

In E/3/506th we worked in six man teams,
Tracking Charlie in the mountains, valleys and cool running streams.
We learned to rely and trust each other,
In time we became close, each man a brother.

Goody set up a site, it's really quite a show.
He felt what we did was important, people should know.
For whatever reasons nations go to war,
Perhaps with men like Goody, there will be no more.
