Born Antonio Hardy in Brooklyn, on September 10, 1968, Big Daddy Kane (anacronym for King Asiatic Nobody's Equal) began his rap career after meetingBiz Markie in front of McCrory's department store in Brooklyn back in 1984;the two traded rhymes and quickly became friends. Kane soon teamed up withhigh school friend and DJ Mister Cee in a group called Magnum Force. Whenthat group dissolved, Cee and Kane stuck together. Quickly making a name forhimself with his pioneering speed rhymes, Kane was soon signed to Cold Chillin' Records in 1987. He released his debut album, Long Live the Kane, the following year featuring the hit single, "Ain't No Half Steppin'" and the underground classic, "Raw."

It's a Big Daddy Thing followed in 1989, spawning hits like "Smooth Operator" and "I Get the Job Done." In 1990, Kane released another of his most successful albums, Taste of Chocolate, on which he teamed upwith artists as diverse as soul crooner Barry White and Dolemite himself, Rudy Ray Moore.

His subsequent albums, Prince of Darkness (1991), Looks Like a Job For...(1993), and Daddy's Home (1994), have failed to top Kane's early success and saw Kane move from Cold Chillin' Warner Bros. to MCA Records. In recent years he has perpetuated his image of being a black Cassanova by appearing in Playgirl magazine and Madonna's racy "Sex" photobook. In addition, Kane has appeared in films such as Gunmen and Mario Van Peebles' black western Posse.

Kane's last album, Veteranz Day, was released on Blackheart records in 1998.
