November 10, 1971 - February 7, 2000
Big Pun (b.Christopher Lee Rios, November 10 1971, Bronx, New York, USA d.February 7, 2000)has spent the last 10 years learning the ins and outs of slick-styled raps. Getting his first breaks with some of the industry's most respected names, including Bone Thugs 'N Harmony, Fat Joe and B-Real of Cypress Hill, Big Pun released his debut album, Capital Punishment, in 1998. Released by New York's Loud Records, Pun's debut features the single, "I'm Not a Player (I Just F*** A Lot)," a song that samples a chorus from the '60s Philly Soul sounds of the O'Jays. He collapsed and died of heart failure in February 2000, not long before the release of the album Yeeeah Baby.

But, as more than one writer has already noted, something so insignificant as death is no longer an impediment to a continuing career in hip -- hop (though Big Pun appears to be not nearly as prolific in this respect as his fallen comrade, Tupac Shakur). Pun's first posthumous offering, Endangered Species, came out in 2001.
