Kender are the happy-go-lucky race that brings kleptomania to a whole new level. These cheerful little people are the bane of Krynn; causing many a citizen to clutch their purses in fear. Kender are known to “borrow” many things, absent-mindedly placing that item into their pouch, only to find it days later. They do not mean to take these things, and to call a Kender a thief is the utmost in insults.

A Kender is quite agile (as their “borrowing” would indicate), and is proficient in two specialized weapons. These weapons, a hoopak and a whippik, can only be used by a kender. A hoopak is a modified staff-sling, and a whippik is a weapon that is similar to a bola. A Kender can employ both of these with deadly force. If those do not work, there is always the barrage of insults that a Kender can issue forth. These can make even the most easy-going person turn red in fury. This talent has shown many adventurers what berserker really means!

Should you ever run across a Kender in your travels, be wary! They are a very innocent-looking race, and do indeed do things without fear. A Kender is struck with “WanderLust” in their young adulthood, and feels the urgent need to leave Kendermore to explore the lands of Ansalon. They can be quite knowledgeable because of this, and many carry several maps that detail things many cartographers would not know.

Kender do not have fear, and in the face of danger, can stand their ground. After the war with Chaos, several Kender became “afflicted”; as they came to know fear and are considered depressed to other Kender. Regardless, many Kender still exist in their oblivious state; and will happily stand in front of an angry dragon to taunt it.

The most famous Kender was Tasslehoff Burrfoot (“Uncle Tas” to many young Kender), Hero of the Lance.
